Our journey begins in 1917 when two German brothers, the Lantz brothers, stumble upon a family recipe preserved in their grandmother's cookbook. Though basic, this fruitcake recipe was packed with rich tastes, which made it a family favorite. Driven by its delicious flavor, the brothers chose to introduce the world to their grandmother's work.
Made by hand and bursting with healthy ingredients, the fruitcake became well-known very fast and soon demand exploded. The Lantz brothers required a bigger facility to meet the rising demand as more people realized this fruitcake was quite good. Their quest turned them onto Beatrice, Nebraska, in 1964, where the bakery still stands today.
Over the years, the bakery changed its name and ownerships multiple times; one thing stayed the same: the original fruitcake recipe. The bakery formally changed its name to Beatrice Bakery Co. in 2002; since then, we have continued using the same recipe that began it all. Every fruitcake we make still possesses the same handmade delicacy that the Lantz brothers first brought about a century ago.
